TLC
BLUNT OBJECTS are handmade one-of-a-kind quilts made from repurposed, vintage and natural fabrics and materials. My quilts are designed and made to be modern heirlooms, intended to be handed down through future generations, and each quilt has its own unique qualities and character. Just like us, they are at their best when treated with respect and given the right tender loving care.
Help your Blunt Objects quilt lasts a lifetime…
and then some.
When possible, spot clean your quilt instead of washing. Dab gently using a mild detergent diluted in cool water. Avoid rubbing as this can damage the fabric or weaken the colour.
Wash your quilt infrequently. Use a hand wash cycle on your machine on a low temperature using a mild detergent, or you can wash by hand in the bath if you prefer. This will ensure colours don’t run and the quilt doesn’t shrink too much.
That said, although each quilt is washed before you receive it, you can expect a littler shrinkage over time. This is normal with handmade quilts as the batting tightens a little with washing. The shrinkage is part and parcel of the quilt-making process and will add to its heritage ‘treasured’ look.
Dry flat where possible, or hang evenly over a non-wooden pole or rod. Iron on a cool setting if desired. DO NOT wring, tumble dry, dry clean or bleach.
If your quilt is folded regularly, or folded for long periods, try not to fold along the seams of the quilt where the patchwork sections are stitched together as these tend to be the weakest parts of a quilt. And always ensure your quilt is completely dry before storing.
Wall hangings
Items bought from the Wall Hangings section of the website should not be washed. If you intend to use your BLUNT OBJECT quilt as a wall hanging only, choose this option at checkout and I can add a sleeve on the back at the top of the quilt so it can be slipped onto a rod or pole.
Always hang quilts and wall hangings out of direct sunlight as fabric colours may fade over time. An occasional light dusting should be sufficient to keep a wall hanging or hung quilt clean.
Repairs
We all have accidents from time to time. If you’ve over-loved your BLUNT OBJECTS quilt and it now needs a little extra TLC, I offer a repair service to get it back in action. Please contact me via the studio email with a description and clear photographs of the damage so I can provide mending options and a quote for the repair work.
