Social & Environmental Policy

At BLUNT OBJECTS (‘we’, ‘us’, ‘our’), sustainability is at the core of everything we create. Our mission is to produce high-quality, hand-stitched quilts from repurposed fabric and natural materials with minimal environmental impact, while supporting ethical and responsible practices throughout our supply chain.

Environmental Responsibility

Sustainable Materials

We prioritise the use of reclaimed, repurposed and recycled textiles, and natural fibres such as organic cotton, linen, wool and bamboo. We avoid the use of synthetic materials unless recycled,  and we the use of harmful chemicals where possible.

Waste Reduction

BLUNT OBJECTS aims to minimise and highlight overproduction by creating one-of-a-kind, small-batch or made-to-order pieces that celebrate repurposed and reclaimed fabrics. Wherever possible, and throughout our practices and processes, we operate a ‘reuse first’ policy. Fabric offcuts are reused in patchworks, wallhangings, smaller products, and projects, or donated to local craft or community initiatives and groups. Packaging is recycled or recyclable and plastic-free (unless it is being reused from other suppliers).

Energy & Resource Use

BLUNT OBJECTS uses energy-efficient equipment and processes wherever possible, often choosing slow handmade processes over mechanical production. Water use is kept low through minimal washing during the making process. We continually review our processes to reduce our ecological footprint.

Social Responsibility

Ethical Labour

All BLUNT OBJECTS quilts are made in-house by artist-designer Carolyn Thompson. In the rare event that we outsource work, we employ skilled makers and pay fair and transparent wages. We support slow making, valuing time, skill and artisanal quality over speed or mass production.

Community Engagement

BLUNT OBJECTS promotes traditional hand-quilting skills and processes. We aim to collaborate with community and craft groups by providing donated fabric offcuts and buttons for craft activities and providing occasional educational workshops. Repurposed fabrics are sourced locally where possible, mostly from charity shops and vintage fairs.

Inclusivity & Accessibility

BLUNT OBJECTS is committed to providing accessible information about our products and keeping our pricing fair relative to the labour and materials involved.

Transparency

We believe customers deserve to know how and by whom their products are made. We commit to sharing information about our materials and sources, being open about our making processes and pricing, and continually reviewing and improving our sustainability practices.

Always Improving

Sustainability is an evolving process. BLUNT OBJECTS constantly seeks new ways to reduce its environmental impact and improve ethical practices. We review this policy annually to ensure our products and services remain thoughtful and sustainable. The latest version of our Social & Environmental Policy will always be available on this website.
